Who We Are:
The Performing Arts Studio opened its doors in January of 1997. Located in Port Jefferson, NY, The Performing Arts Studio remains one of the busiest theater and music schools on Long Island. PAS is open to students of all ages and levels, and has also become a theatrical haven for their professional acting company and pro singing group. In the summer, they house "Camp Broadway East", their full-time intensive theater arts camp for young thespians. The directors of the Performing Arts Stdudio are Deborah Livering, Michael Livering, and Teresa Morrissey.
Deborah Livering is a Broadway veteran. She is a recording artist, an alumni of Juliiard School of Drama, and has been teaching acting, dance and voice all over the world for the last tewenty five years.
Michael Livering is a pianist, composer and producer. He is a recipient of The Kennedy Center Award for musical direction and has scored several musicals and films.
Teresa Morrissey is an actress and singer with over twenty five years experience teaching theater workshops for children. She is also the create force behind PAS's sets and costumes.
Program Summary:
We teach age-appropriate, process-oriented theater arts workshops which include focus and theater games, improvisation, creative play, music, and movement. These activities also help improve verbal skills and stimulate creativity.
Program Objectives:
"Give them wings so they can fly" was our motto when we opened our doors fourteen years ago, and it remains our motto today. Our objective is to provide quality morning and afternoon theater arts programs which enrich the lives of Pre-K and Kindergarten children. Our fun-filled theater arts workshops are built around activities which improve communication and social skills, and build self esteem. We change many young lives, and take great pride and joy in watching our young children become healthy, happy, confident adults.
Timeline:
Operating hours are Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Facilities:
The Performing Arts Studio is located in Port Jefferson Village. We have two floors. Our black box theater, which can accomodate seventy five, is located on the second floor. The first floor is rehearsal space, with a snack pantry and refrigerator where we can provide nutritious snacks and beverages.
